張騫一行從長(zhǎng)安起程,經(jīng)隴西向西行進(jìn)。他們來到河西走廊一帶后,被占據(jù)此地的匈奴騎兵發(fā)現(xiàn)。張騫和隨從一百多人全部被俘。匈奴單于知道了張騫西行的目的之后,把他們分散開去放羊牧馬,并由匈奴人嚴(yán)加管制。還給張騫娶了匈奴女子為妻,一是監(jiān)視他,二是誘使他投降。但是,張騫堅(jiān)貞不屈。整整過了十一個(gè)春秋,張騫才乘機(jī)和他的貼身隨從甘父一起逃走,離開匈奴地盤,繼續(xù)向西行進(jìn)。歷盡千辛萬苦,終于越過沙漠、戈壁,翻過冰凍雪封的蔥嶺(今帕米爾高原),來到了大宛國(今費(fèi)爾干納)。國王熱情地接見了張騫,并幫助他先后到了康居(今撒馬爾罕)、大月氏、大夏等地。但大月氏在阿姆河游安居樂業(yè),不愿再東進(jìn)和匈奴作戰(zhàn)。張騫未能完成與大月氏結(jié)盟夾擊匈奴的使命,卻獲得了大量有關(guān)西域各國的人文地理知識(shí)。張騫在東歸返回的途中,再次被匈奴抓獲,后又設(shè)計(jì)逃出。于13年后回到長(zhǎng)安。這次出使西域,使生活在中原內(nèi)地的人們了解到西域的實(shí)況,激發(fā)了漢武帝“拓邊”的雄心,發(fā)動(dòng)了一系列抗擊匈奴的戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)。公元前119年,漢王朝為了進(jìn)一 步聯(lián)絡(luò)烏孫,斷“匈奴右臂”,便派張騫再次出使西域。這次,張騫帶了三百多人,順利地到達(dá)了烏孫。并派副使訪問了康居、大宛、大月氏、大夏、安息(今伊朗)、身毒(今印度)等國家。但由于烏孫內(nèi)亂,也未能實(shí)現(xiàn)結(jié)盟的目的。漢武帝派名將霍去病帶重兵攻擊匈奴,消滅了盤踞河西走廊和漠北的匈奴,建立了河西四郡和兩關(guān),開通了絲綢之路。張騫不畏艱險(xiǎn),兩次出使西域,溝通了亞洲內(nèi)陸交通要道,與西歐諸國正式開始了友好往來,促進(jìn)了東西經(jīng)濟(jì)文化的廣泛交流,開拓了絲綢之路,完全可稱之為中國走向世界的第一人。
